Evan's Information ChatBot
This chatbot was created with the simplest purpose of providing course information to students. I tried several ChatBot developer websites (featured below) with simplicity in mind, and I found DialogFlow to be the most effective.
Pros of DialogFlow
-
Free
-
Smooth Interface
-
Easily Integrated to other Platform Services
-
Provide an Array of Responses for one message.
Cons of DialogFlow
-
If you are an organization with a lot of Intentions- it could be challenging to organize.
-
Couldn’t add Custom Formatting to Text (Bold Text, Hyperlinks, etc)
For this Chatbot, Fulfillment integration was not used. Businesses would more likely be using the Fulfillment portion. For more information on Fulfillment, click here.
Evan's Intentions and Positionality
My intention for the Chatbot was to create something that I could use in my own classroom. I thought of the most likely use of using the Chatbot in my own classroom, and I figured a Bot would be the most ideal for assignment reminders and upcoming schedule. I used several different Chatbot creators and with trial and error and user interface, I found the DialogFlow to be the easiest to manage these intentions. Currently, Chatbots are more prevalent in the Business world than they are in the Education world, so coming up with how an everyday teacher without previous training could and would use this tool in their own classrooms. I wanted to take the same concept and apply it in multiple Chatbot creators. They are all uniquely different and take time to understand even the simplest of tasks. I cast a similarity between Bot Creating to programming languages, in the fact you use several languages to do the same task, but there is a learning curve to each language.
